Loose motion and loss stool in babies can be due to a natural act of flushing out the pathogens like bacteria and toxin from the tiny body. In case of loose stool, the bowel is usually watery and stinky. The color can be pale yellow or dark yellow. In case of loose motion the baby is usually cranky and irritated, the condition gets normal in 2-3 days but if the issue persists for more than 3 days, it is best to consult a doctor as it can lead to dehydration.
Here are effective and natural remedies to treat loose motions in babies
Breastmilk is the best medicine and perfect cure for all issues related to babies. Continue to feed the little one on demand, this will keep the baby hydrated and breastmilk will provide all the essential nutrients to the baby. If the baby is less than 6 months, only breastfeed the baby and consult your doctor before following any home remedies.
2. Oral Rehydrated Solution
It is the best and easily available solution to control loose motions in babies. ORS helps to rehydrate the baby and restock the lost fluids and mineral in little one's body. You can buy ORS sachets or prepare one at home. Mix 3 teaspoons of sugar with 1/4 teaspoon of salt in 500 ml water. Offer this solution to your baby every 45 minutes to 1 hours. This is advisable for babies above 9 months.
Banana is considered as a natural and healthy remedy to control loose motions in babies, it helps to control watery stool. You can also prepare flavored yogurt with banana and hung curd. Not advisable for babies below 6 months.
4. Pomegranate juice
Pomegranate juice helps the baby to keep hydrated, grind pomegranate seeds and extract only the juice, dilute this juice with ½ cup of filtered water and offer to little one at regular intervals.
5. Rice Porridge
You can prepare rice porridge and offer too little one, it works as a rehydration solution and is an effective remedy to cure loose motion. Pressure cook 1/2 cup of rice with 6 cups of water, cook for 3 whistles in medium flame. Make sure the rice porridge is water, offer it to baby to increase the fluid content in the body.
6. Offer more liquid
Avoid force-feeding the baby, reduce the quantity of solid feed, since a person suffering from diarrhea needs more liquids and fluids as compared to solids. Let the baby have the feed as per his choice, make sure the little one consumes food slowly.
7. Strictly avoid antibiotics
Avoid using any kind of antibiotics as sometimes the medicine would do more harm than good. Antibiotics are a big no unless the infection is due to bacteria. If your pediatrician has suggested some medicine, always ask for the side effects. Avoid feeding anti-vomiting drugs after feeding the baby. Make sure to wait for at least 1.5 hours and then feed the baby.
